When it comes to music industry “legends”, Al Schmitt is in a class by himself. Over the course of his more than 60 year career, he has recorded and mixed over 150 gold and platinum albums for a long list of artists spanning virtually every music genre, including Sam Cooke, Jascha Heifetz, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Madonna and many others.
Al has won more GRAMMY® Awards than any other engineer or mixer. In fact, Al’s work is so prolific, in 2006 he was presented the Grammy Trustees Lifetime Achievement Award.
Many of Al’s Grammy winning recordings have also enjoyed major sales success, including such well known titles as Henry Mancini’s Hatari!; George Benson’s Breezin’; Steely Dan’s Aja; Toto’s Toto IV; Diana Krall’s The Look of Love and Ray Charles’s Genius Loves Company, which set a record for the most awards won by an engineer or mixer.
